Summary
Facilities staff updated trustees on progress of the 2019 bond program, including press box replacements, a new Freeport Intermediate weight room, a security vestibule design, roofing overlays and the scheduled abatement and demolition of the Brazoswood Natatorium.
The district’s planning and construction staff provided a progress report on projects funded by the 2019 bond program, outlining completed and upcoming work across campuses.
Presenters showed before-and-after images of a press box replacement and described the recently completed Freeport Intermediate weight room, which includes motorized roll-up doors, rubber sports flooring and new equipment. They reviewed a 20-by-24-foot security vestibule design for Freeport Intermediate with a reception office, visitor seating and controlled electronic doors, and confirmed plans to match exterior materials to existing campus brickwork.
Officials outlined the Brazoswood Natatorium demolition schedule: abatement scheduled to start next week (three to four weeks), followed by building demolition (five to six weeks), site demolition and restoration, with an anticipated completion in July and a construction access fence in place while school remains in session. Contractors and phasing for other bond projects — including a planned roof overlay at Brazoswood and interior buildouts for transportation and child nutrition facilities — were also reviewed.
Trustees asked questions about sequencing, potential impacts to site features (for example temporary disruptions to recently completed ROTC pad work) and project timelines. Staff said they will monitor impacts and repair any incidental damage from work and confirmed most projects are expected to be complete before the next school year.
