City staff liaison Tanisha told the commission that Art Drop is scheduled for April and asked for help securing sponsors or in‑kind donations of art supplies. “We will have, hopefully, again, I’ve already reached out to Plaid, which was a sponsor last year, and they gave us fully packaged up kits,” Tanisha said, describing prior kits and the need to line up donations early.
Tanisha floated a hybrid model: a community swap or “skill‑share” format hosted in the new Dresden building where people could drop off and pick up supplies, attend short demonstrations, and collect kits. Commissioners suggested reaching out to Scrap Atlanta/Scraplanta and local businesses to source materials, and discussed printed sponsor bags to create a uniform kit when donations are piecemeal.
On logistics, Tanisha said the high‑school art club typically assembles kits as a volunteer project two to three weeks before the event; she recommended targeting April 1 to ensure supplies are ready before spring break. Commissioners raised a quality‑control concern about random donations (expired markers, unusable items) and recommended prioritizing either curated in‑kind donations or modest financial support to purchase new supplies.
The commission also discussed improving the online experience: Tanisha said the event uses a hashtag (artdropchamblee) and asked for ways to better monitor and reshare posts during the weeklong event. Commissioners suggested using repost features and social monitoring tools such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social to collect posts and highlight the top contributions each day.
Next steps: Commissioners who can volunteer should contact Tanisha to help with kit assembly and skill‑share programming; staff will continue outreach to potential sponsors and post details about volunteer needs.
