Springfield Licensing Commission approves Racing Mart transfer, OKs dealer licenses and terminates abandoned dealership

The Springfield Licensing Commission met April 22 and approved several licensing actions, including the transfer of a package-store wine-and-malt license for Racing Mart at 1487 Bay Street and new Class 2 dealer licenses for two businesses. Commissioners also voted to terminate the license for an apparently abandoned auto dealer and continued one contested dealer application until May 13 so a city charge can be resolved.
At the start of the meeting the chair moved to approve minutes from the April 8, 2026 hearing; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
Attorney Tom Truax spoke for the applicants seeking transfer of the Racing Mart license. Truax said the buyer is Bay Street Racing Mart Inc., with Rakesh Kumar Patel as president and Viral Kumar Patel as the proposed manager. Truax described the transaction as a turnkey sale with no seller or bank financing.
