Lincoln County authorizes $330,000 outdoor recreation grant application, ups county match to $30,000

Lincoln County commissioners unanimously authorized staff to apply for a Wyoming Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Grant of $330,000 and agreed to increase the county’s cash match to "up to $30,000." The item was discussed April 7 during the morning session.
County Chief of Staff Stephen Allen and County Engineer Amy Butler explained that much of the non-county match is expected to come from the U.S. Forest Service and that project costs could vary. Mary Crosby, the county grant writer, told the board that saving the project from having to go through the legislature was important and urged flexibility on the match. After discussion, Commissioner Melvin Shumway moved to authorize the application with the county committing up to $30,000 in cash match; Commissioner Teri Bowers seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The authorization allows staff to submit the grant application; Allen noted a future amendment could be brought back to the board if match needs change. County staff indicated they would continue coordination with the U.S. Forest Service on project scope and matching contributions.
Next steps: county staff will submit the application and continue negotiations on matching contributions with the Forest Service and other partners. If the grant is awarded, the board may consider formal agreement or budget adjustments.
