Commission approves $405,000 dozer purchase, staffing changes and weekend recycling hours for landfill

The Carter County Board of Commissioners approved several actions affecting landfill operations during its Dec. 19 meeting, including equipment purchases, staffing changes and service expansions.
On a motion by Steve Burrough, the commission authorized the purchase of a new landfill dozer at a cost not to exceed $405,000. Funding was directed from the first installment of the LATCF grant, with any remainder to be paid from the Landfill's Unassigned Fund Balance. The motion carried with nineteen (19) yes votes.
The commission also approved converting two landfill part-time positions to full-time for the remainder of the fiscal year at an expected additional cost not to exceed $17,000, funded from the Landfill's Unassigned Fund Balance. Separately, commissioners authorized funding of approximately $4,300 to cover part-time staffing costs needed to open the Recycle Center on Saturdays for the remainder of the fiscal year.
All three motions were presented by the Budget Committee and recorded as carried with unanimous favorable tallies where recorded. These actions aim to support landfill operations and expand recycling access.
