Commission appoints Jason Clawson to fill 6th District vacancy

The Carter County Board of Commissioners appointed Jason Clawson to fill the vacant 6th District seat on Dec. 19, 2022. Nancy Brown nominated Clawson; Commissioner Avery Wynn seconded the nomination, and the commission voted to appoint him.
Clawson was sworn in by Carter County Clerk Mary Gouge and took his seat immediately after the vote. The motion recorded electronic and voice tallies and carried with eighteen (18) yes votes.
The appointment followed consideration of three applicants: Jason Clawson, John Lewis and Johnny Miller. No additional nominations were made during the floor discussion.
The commission then proceeded with the remainder of its agenda, with Clawson participating in subsequent votes.
