Board ratifies three-year OPC agreement after negotiations

The Marion City Schools Board of Education on April 20 approved a resolution adopting a tentative three-year agreement with the OPC union, superintendent Scott Murphy told the board.
Murphy said district negotiators and union representatives met for two full days and reached what he described as a collaborative, balanced agreement that both supports employees and keeps the district’s finances in mind. He said the agreement includes operational changes around attendance and initiatives to address staffing challenges in food service and transportation.
"It was a very collaborative process," Murphy said, and the agreement had been ratified by OPC prior to the board vote. The board moved and approved the resolution on the record.
Board members thanked the negotiating teams for their work; the administration said there would be no immediate change to public operations beyond the agreed terms and that any contract implementation steps would be handled through administration and the bargaining unit.
Ending: The board approved the OPC contract resolution and scheduled an executive session for additional personnel discussion; the contract was presented as ratified by OPC earlier in the week and will be implemented under the terms set out in the agreement.
