Residents press quarry concerns and Boys & Girls Club support; board holds executive session on personnel, takes no action

Ms. Jennifer Ray urged tabling discussion of the quarry, suggested alternate locations for future quarry meetings and mentioned the USA’s 250th anniversary. Mr. William Vargo also commented on the USA’s 250th birthday. Ms. Barb Vargo raised concerns she associated with violence regarding the quarry and urged placing the quarry question on the November ballot. Ms. Denise Merritt spoke in support of the Boys & Girls Club and the services it can provide to Eatonton students. The minutes do not record direct quotes from those speakers.
Commissioner Richard Garrett told the board that he had addressed several of the public comments during his announcements; the minutes do not provide the content of his responses.
Later in the meeting County Attorney Kurt Worthington requested that the board enter executive session under O.C.G.A. § 50-14-4 for a personnel matter. Commissioner Richard Garrett moved to enter executive session, Commissioner Tom McElhenney seconded, and the minutes record that Commissioners McElhenney, Garrett, Hersey and Wooten voted yea and the meeting was closed at approximately 6:37 p.m. The meeting reopened at about 7:16 p.m., the board executed an affidavit concerning the closed portion of the meeting, and the minutes state that no action resulted from the executive session.
