VTrans, CCRPC seek municipal site hosts for NEVI charging projects as RFP nears

Ann Janda, CCRPC’s senior energy project manager, told the TAC on March 4 that about $13 million remains available from VTrans through the federal NEVI program and that VTrans will soon seek municipal site hosts via a survey to show interest. An RFP to select vendor‑host proposals is expected at the end of March or in early April.
Janda said priority locations include Winooski and Williston, but VTrans is open to any shovel‑ready sites. She said there is no direct cost to a site host because the vendor is expected to pay the 20% match, but site hosts must execute a site host agreement and typically dedicate four to five parking spaces for publicly available charging. Burlington Electric Department (BED) is prequalified with VTrans and plans to respond to the RFP.
When asked whether projects will require NEPA review, Janda said CCRPC staff will need to confirm details with VTrans and FHWA’s Roger Thompson added that projects will need to go through NEPA. Staff said more information, including the site interest survey and RFP timing, will be released in the coming weeks.
