The Transportation Advisory Committee recommended that the CCRPC Board accept VTrans' 2026 statewide safety performance targets for the metropolitan planning area at its Feb. 3 meeting. Staff explained FHWA's five safety measures (number and rate of fatalities; number and rate of serious injuries; and number of non-motorized fatalities and serious injuries) and said CCRPC may either accept VTrans' statewide targets or adopt its own metropolitan-area targets.
Committee members noted the targets have not changed since 2023. Gillian Nanton asked why Maine and New Hampshire show nearly double Vermont's fatalities; staff said the most likely explanation is larger populations and urban areas in those states. Jack Evans moved to recommend Board acceptance of the VTrans targets; Bob Henneberger seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
