Tazewell County CPMT unanimously approves funding for foster care and related services after closed session

After a closed session on child-welfare cases, the Tazewell County Community Policy and Management Team unanimously approved funding for foster care, CPS, Cumberland services, court services and Tazewell County Schools to support those cases.
Roberta Davis’s CPMT convened Sept. 22, 2025; following a closed session on child-welfare matters, David Taylor, Director of Tazewell County Department of Social Services, moved to approve funding for foster care and related services, and Arlene Matney, Fiscal Agent for Tazewell County Administration, seconded the motion. The CPMT carried the motion unanimously.
The closed session had been authorized to discuss foster care, Child Protective Services (CPS), services provided by Cumberland programs, court services and supports delivered via Tazewell County Schools. The CPMT then read and adopted a certification stating the closed meeting complied with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, citing Code of Virginia §§2.2-3711 and 2.2-3712; the certification vote was recorded as AYES 9, NAYS 0, ABSENT 1, with the Parent Representative seat noted as vacant.
Members did not detail dollar amounts or line-item allocations for the approved funding in the open minutes. The motion recorded in the minutes authorized that funding be provided for the named service areas for the cases discussed; the minutes state the motion was "unanimously carried." The CPMT did not include a vote-by-name roll call for the funding motion in the public minutes.
The meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m. The CPMT’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 27, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
