District presents athletics and activities report; plans full‑time athletic directors and highlights unified track

Dani Mundell, the district’s athletics and activities leader, presented a spring spotlight to the board on April 21, emphasizing inclusion, student development and continuity of support for coaches.

Mundell told the board the district offered 24 different sports this year with 171 teams and more than 3,300 student athletes, and that approximately 40 percent of participants compete in multiple sports. She highlighted Everett High School’s new unified track, which pairs students with qualified disabilities with peers and can qualify competitors for WIAA State level competition, and noted 186 girls participated in the district’s inaugural girls flag football season, 58 of whom were not previously engaged in other sports.

Mundell described supports for athletics—from middle school athletic secretaries who manage eligibility to a district athletic coordinator and preseason coach evaluations—and said the district will add full‑time athletic directors at each high school starting in July to strengthen program stability and family support.

Board members and student representatives praised the emphasis on access and the district’s efforts to keep participation fees stable. Mundell said athletics and activities are supported through ticket revenues, booster groups and some grants, and that the department works to reduce barriers through registration support and equipment donations.

The presentation was informational; the board did not take formal action at the meeting.
