DDA approves 2026 maintenance agreement; Pierce properties secured and cleared by EPD

The Chamblee Downtown Development Authority voted unanimously on Feb. 24 to approve a 2026 property maintenance agreement with the City of Chamblee Public Works covering DDA properties for one year, starting March 1.
Staff said the updated agreement adds two Pierce properties and sets a monthly maintenance fee of $1,725. There is also a one-time cleanup cost of $1,615 specifically for 5554 Peachtree Road, one of the Pierce commercial parcels. Staff said Public Works could begin cleanup as soon as the board approved the agreement.
On the Pierce properties, staff reported that gates have been locked, commercial-site utilities (power and water) have been disconnected and meters removed. Staff is soliciting quotes to haul off a trailer on site; the first quote returned was $800. The DDA facilities contact said vendors they have worked with typically provide fair quotes.
The chair said he and Chamblee police had walked the Pierce House site and noted most windows and doors were secured, though a rear garage lacked a door and a camper on an industrial parcel remained a security concern. The chair also announced that the DDA had received a No Further Action (NFA) letter from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division regarding the Pierce House.
A committee member moved to approve the maintenance agreement at the presented values; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Next steps: Public Works will begin scheduled maintenance and staff will gather additional hauling/cleanup quotes and coordinate removal of the camper and debris at the commercial site.
