Board motion to place a moratorium on data centers dies for lack of a second

County Administrator Kelly Schroeder told the board that the Pine County Zoning Board had recommended adopting a moratorium to allow staff and the board time to study the land-use impacts of data centers and to draft appropriate zoning regulations.
Commissioner Matt Ludwig moved to adopt Pine County Ordinance 2026-15 to authorize a study and impose a moratorium on data center developments. The motion died for lack of a second and no moratorium was enacted.
The board did not take further action on data center zoning at the April 7 meeting; the Zoning Board recommendation and staff request remain on record for future consideration.
