David Jackalitz, one of the district music co-chairpersons, presented certificates April 21 to fifth- and sixth-grade students selected for county ensembles. He explained selection was based on teacher recommendations, outstanding performance and prior-year assessment results and named the students chosen for LISFA (a countywide orchestra event) and SCMEA (which includes orchestra, band and chorus).
After calling the students forward for a group photo, Jackalitz said the students would return across the hall to receive certificates and that some students were selected for both ensembles.
The board acknowledged the recognition before moving to the next agenda item.
