The Beckley Area Foundation provided cash awards for finalists and a $400 check to the winner, Larry Ford, president of the Raleigh County Board of Education and representative of the Ford Family Fund, told the audience. “I salute all of you who will contribute every day in ways that often go unnoticed,” Ford said during his opening remarks, praising nominees for their commitment, safety practices and leadership.
Emcee Mr. Dillon guided the evening’s program, thanked the Academy of Careers and Technology for hosting and recognized the ProStart students led by John Lester who prepared the meal. Woodrow Wilson High School’s vocal ensemble, directed by Pam Schrader, provided musical performances during the program.
The emcee read short commendations for nominees from across the district — including custodians, bus operators, cafeteria staff, clerical workers and paraprofessionals — and named finalists in five classifications before announcing the overall winner, Thomas “TJ” Clay. Clay was introduced as a maintenance department employee; after being presented the award, he expressed gratitude to his peers for the nomination and support.
Superintendent Dr. Storcher closed the program with brief remarks praising service personnel, saying they are “the backbone of everything we do,” and thanking organizers, sponsors and the honorees.
The banquet included photography and plaques for nominees and finalists; attendees were invited to take photos by the program display. No formal board action or vote took place at the event.
