The Camp Verde Town Council unanimously approved a Notice of Intent on March 25 to raise the town's transient lodging transaction privilege tax from three percent to eight percent.
Town Manager Miranda Fisher reviewed the background: the Council previously reached consensus on May 14, 2025 to pursue the increase and staff delivered an explanation of the statutory process for amending the tax. Fisher said municipalities may adopt such an increase by ordinance without voter approval and described allocation rules for lodging-tax revenue: the first 5.65 percentage points (3.65% plus an additional 2.00%) are not subject to the statutory restriction, while the portion above 5.65 percentage points (2.35 percentage points under the 8 percent proposal) must be earmarked for tourism promotion and the development of tourism-related attractions.
Councilers reviewed alternative rate options and a handout from Northern Arizona University comparing rates across jurisdictions. On a motion by Councilor Jessie Murdock, seconded by Councilor Robert Foreman, the Council approved the Notice of Intent to increase the transient lodging tax to 8 percent. The roll call vote was unanimous: Bolton, Seybold, Foreman, Murdock, Godwin, Escoffier and Mayor Moore voting aye; motion carried 7-0.
A public review period will follow and a public hearing on the bed tax proposal is scheduled for the May 27, 2026 Town Council meeting.
