SAGINAW — The Saginaw County Board of Commissioners on March 17 authorized two grant applications aimed at improving park accessibility and restrooms.
The first resolution, offered by Commissioner Michael A. Webster and seconded by Commissioner Denny M. Harris, authorizes submission of a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund application titled “Price Nature Center ADA Improvements.” The county will request $235,183 and commit matching funds of $100,793 (30%) toward a total estimated project cost of $335,976. The resolution was adopted with eight yeas, one abstention (Commissioner Richard A. Spitzer) and two absences.
The Board also authorized a Recreation Passport Grant Program application for “Ringwood Forest Restroom and ADA Improvements.” Commissioner Webster offered the resolution and Commissioner Sheldon Matthews seconded it. The county will request $140,400 with a $46,800 (25%) local match toward a $187,200 project. That resolution passed with the same attendance pattern and one recorded abstention.
County parks and recreation staff said both projects are supported by the county’s five-year parks and recreation plan; the Price Nature Center project specifically lists a paved pathway and an accessible family restroom. Commissioners said the projects would improve access and site amenities for county residents. Staff will proceed with application submission and return to the Board with project budgets and timelines as grant processes progress.
