The Waterloo City Council on a routine vote approved two marketing contracts and a $7,500 annual contribution to a regional tourism partner referred to in the meeting as "Western Egyptian." The council voted to renew a 20-week digital billboard contract with ADI Media and a distribution program with CTM Media Group (St. Louis), with costs drawn from the hotel/motel tax fund.
The chair said the ADI contract covers 20 weeks of billboard advertising west of the JV Bridge and that the fiscal-year cost was shown on the agenda as $10,000 with a 15% discount through a tourism bureau partner, for a net cost of $8,500 to be paid from the hotel/motel tax fund. Staff told the council CTM's distribution program would run from 05/01/2026 through 04/03/2027 at a cost of $2,907, also paid from the hotel/motel tax fund.
Nut graf: Council members said both items had been discussed previously in committee and recommended for inclusion in next year’s budget; the council approved both renewals on roll calls without additional conditions.
During discussion, a staff member said the ADI schedule is flexible, allowing the city to select the 20 weeks when the billboard runs, and that the CTM program is a longstanding partnership used to distribute brochures about local attractions. No member requested further financial breakdowns during the meeting. The council also approved what the agenda described as an annual $7,500 contribution to "Western Egyptian," which the chair characterized as a routine, previously made contribution.
The council approved both contracts and the contribution by roll call. The agenda packet and statements at the meeting indicate the payments will be drawn from hotel/motel tax revenue. The council moved on to other agenda items after the votes.
Ending: The approvals will appear in next year’s budget and be reflected in the hotel/motel tax fund expenditures; no additional public hearings on these contracts were scheduled during the meeting.
