Summary
The PERRYTON ISD board voted unanimously to approve Phase 2 high‑school construction plans and directed staff to send the plans to HB for contractor pricing. The plans add SPED and science spaces, a new secured entrance, culinary and life‑skills classrooms, and include discussion about parking options.
The PERRYTON ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve Phase 2 of the high‑school construction plans and directed staff to send the documents to HB for pricing.
Presenters from the design and construction team described the scope of Phase 2 as an addition that will house special‑education (SPED) classrooms, science and physics labs, a culinary suite with eight stations and gas stoves, life‑skills training spaces, and reconfigured administrative and nurse offices. The team emphasized security changes including a relocated, secured main entrance with locked access and bullet‑resistant film for selected glazing.
"We're here to present the high school phase 2 set of prints for approval for pricing," said the contractor representative (Presenter (S4)), noting the packet will let HB prepare contractor estimates. The architect (Architect (Presenter, S2)) walked the board through site work, a concrete flume to manage stormwater, demolition of an existing wood‑frame structure to make way for the addition, and proposed exterior finishes that match Phase 1.
Board members and meeting participants questioned circulation and parking. A participant urged the board to consider placing additional parking across Jefferson Street and to price that option separately, noting frequent parking shortages during events. The design team said they would price that option as an add‑alternate so the board can evaluate cost and phasing.
During the review the design team also noted prior ESSER‑funded Phase 1 improvements and said Phase 2 documents reflect lessons learned from that work. The engineering presentation covered plumbing, gas, HVAC and low‑voltage systems needed for the expanded program areas.
In the absence of further discussion the chair called for the motion to approve Phase 2 plans and send them for pricing. The motion passed unanimously. "Motion carries 7 to 0," the chair (S1) said.
The district will forward the approved bid documents to HB for pricing; the board can consider the cost estimates, phasing and any add‑alternates at a later meeting.
