Summary
At its March 25 meeting the Aberdeen City Council approved a roughly $17,000 sign contract, adopted two ordinances (Bills 26-01 and 26-02), advanced bill 26-03, authorized public-works contracts and enacted proclamations; votes were recorded by roll call.
The Aberdeen City Council on March 25 approved a set of procurement and ordinance items, including a contract for a signage project, the creation of a customer assistance program fund, several public-works authorizations and two proclamations.
A city staff member said the contract with CNVsign and Electric Incorporated for signing would cost about $17,000 and noted the LTAC grant of roughly $15,000 that paid for similar work last year was not renewed. The council approved the contract by roll call; recorded "yes" votes included Ramsey, Hodgkin, Moynihan, Nipper, Fredo, Pratchett, Swart, Taylor and David Gagan, while Shaw and Wilson recorded "no." The staff member described the $17,000 as the project cost and said council would need to cover the shortfall after last year's grant lapse.
Council also approved a resolution authorizing a surplus of funds from the wastewater treatment plant and adopted Bill 26-01, which establishes a customer assistance program fund and adds chapter 3.124 to the Aberdeen Municipal Code. Bill 26-01 reached a third reading on March 25; the motion to adopt passed after roll call despite an objection noted during reading.
Public works secured authorization to award a contract for sorting services, to authorize the mayor to execute a hazard-mitigation and debris-services agreement, and to execute a flood-damage-reduction grant agreement with the Washington State Department of Ecology; each item was moved, seconded and approved by council vote.
Council opened and immediately closed a public hearing on proposed amendments to AMC regulations related to shopping carts and advanced Bill 26-03 to a second reading. The council also completed the third reading and adoption of Bill 26-02 (an ordinance amending AMC 2.20) and approved proclamations recognizing May 2026 as Building Safety Month and May 3–9, 2026, as Public Employee Service Recognition Week.
The meeting recessed into a 20-minute closed session and reconvened at about 7:36 p.m.; council then adjourned.
