Anamosa City Council approves routine motions, sets WTP aerator hearing; directs City Attorney after closed session

The Anamosa City Council on July 28 approved several routine items, scheduled a public hearing for a water-treatment procurement, and voted to direct the City Attorney after a closed session on litigation strategy.
In separate motions the council: • Approved plans, specifications and contract and authorized bid letting for the WTP Aerator Replacement Project and set a public hearing for Sept. 8, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. (Motion by Todd Weimer, seconded by Dan Smith; roll vote: Weimer, D. Smith, Gombert, Crump, K. Smith — ayes.)
• Approved appointments to the Library Board of Trustees to fill terms ending June 30, 2028 (Motion by Kay Smith, seconded by Rich Crump; roll vote: D. Smith, Gombert, Crump, K. Smith, Weimer — ayes.)
• Adopted Resolution 2025-47 setting the wage for the full-time Assistant Parks & Recreation Director for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026 (Motion by Rich Crump, seconded by Kay Smith; roll vote: Gombert, Crump, K. Smith, Weimer, D. Smith — ayes.)
• Approved a request to bring a resolution regarding placement of two “Slow Down — Children At Play” signs at 902 South Main Street (Motion by Rich Crump, seconded by Dan Smith; roll vote: D. Smith, Gombert, Crump, K. Smith, Weimer — ayes.)
• Approved purchase of a volleyball system for the Lawrence Community Center from Sports Imports for $3,879.65 (Motion by Dan Smith, seconded by Brooke Gombert; roll vote: Weimer, D. Smith, Gombert, Crump, K. Smith — ayes.)
• Approved consent-agenda pay requests totaling $22,035.33 (Motion by Rich Crump, seconded by Kay Smith; roll vote: K. Smith, Weimer, D. Smith, Gombert, Crump — ayes.)
Later in the meeting Mayor Rod Smith opened the floor for non-agenda public comment; none was offered. The council then voted to enter a closed session under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(c) to discuss litigation strategy (Motion by Rich Crump, seconded by Brooke Gombert; roll vote: Crump, K. Smith, Weimer, D. Smith, Gombert — ayes). The council returned to open session and, by motion of Todd Weimer seconded by Rich Crump, directed the City Attorney to proceed as advised in closed session (roll vote: K. Smith, Weimer, D. Smith, Gombert, Crump — ayes).
The council later entered a second closed session under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency of an individual (personnel matter) and returned to open session; no personnel decisions were recorded in open session. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 P.M.
