Anamosa council approves camera system, vehicles, contracts and city property sale
Summary
The Anamosa City Council unanimously approved multiple equipment purchases and contracts — including a $93,001 Axon camera agreement and a $43,034 police vehicle — and approved sale of city property at 306 North Davis Street. Several hearings were scheduled for wastewater and right-of-way actions.
The Anamosa City Council voted unanimously July 14 to approve a series of equipment purchases, contracts and the sale of city-owned property while setting public hearings related to wastewater funding and a right-of-way vacation.
The council approved a five-year purchase agreement with Axon for replacement car and body cameras for the Anamosa Police Department at a total cost of $93,001. According to the motion (moved by Rich Crump, seconded by Brooke Gombert), the purchase will be paid in annual installments of $18,600.20 over five years. The motion passed with Ayes from Councilmembers Weimer, Dan Smith, Gombert, Crump and Kay Smith; no Nays were recorded.
Council members also authorized a sequence of vehicle and equipment buys for the Police and Public Works departments. The council approved a $43,034 purchase from Stivers Ford for a 2025 Ford Police Interceptor (motion by Crump, seconded by Gombert) and a $30,480.63 Keltek upfitting contract for that vehicle (motion by Dan Smith, seconded by Crump). The council later approved a $114,492 purchase of a 2026 International dump truck chassis for Public Works (motion by Kay Smith, seconded by Todd Weimer). All motions carried unanimously.
The council acted on other operational items: it approved changing Officer Derek Kunkel’s position to School Resource Officer (motion by Dan Smith, seconded by Crump); awarded a contract and issued a notice to proceed to Tschiggfrie Excavating Co. for the Ford and Huber Sanitary Project (motion by Dan Smith, seconded by Brooke Gombert); and approved a Notice of Intent to release funds for the Downtown Façade Improvement Project (motion by Rich Crump, seconded by Todd Weimer). The council also approved the Parks & Recreation Department’s $66,100 LCC Entrance Project and consent pay requests totaling $357,712.13.
Separately, the council approved the vacation, sale and conveyance of city-owned real estate at 306 North Davis Street (motion by Dan Smith, seconded by Rich Crump). The meeting record indicates the public hearing on the sale was opened and closed with no public comment before the council adopted the motion.
The council set two additional public hearings: Resolution 2025-42 establishes a July 28, 2025 public hearing on the Status of Funded Activities for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Flow EQ Basin Project (motion by Rich Crump, seconded by Dan Smith); Resolution 2025-44 sets an Aug. 11, 2025 hearing to consider vacating, selling and conveying a former alley between 204 South Davis Street and 610 East 2nd Street (motion by Rich Crump, seconded by Kay Smith). For one scheduled construction item (Change Order #2 from WRH, Inc., $19,717.54 to remove and replace grates), the council discussed alternatives to replacement and took no action, requesting staff research repair options.
The meeting adjourned at 7:46 P.M.
