Perry Carnegie Library reports rising program attendance, new bathroom remodel and summer lineup

Pam Rigg, the Perry Carnegie Library's head librarian, gave the board a quarterly update on April 20, saying the library drew 876 attendees from January through March and held a well‑attended themed "Bluey" event in March. "Bluey is very popular," Rigg said, describing multiple activity stations and a costumed performer that attracted families.
Rigg reviewed upcoming programs and logistics for the summer reading campaign: incentives will be available to those who sign up in May, and younger children will count books read aloud while older children must read at least 10 minutes for 10 days to earn prizes. She also announced an adult craft program April 30 and a laser‑tag event May 13 that requires a parent or guardian waiver.
On facilities, Rigg showed photos of recent bathroom renovations and said the work was "generously funded through the Carnegie Library Progress Club through donations" and did not come from the city budget. She outlined the next phase of work, including upstairs flooring, mini‑kitchen floor, and new sinks and countertops for downstairs, and asked the board to expect follow‑up scheduling for countertops and finishing.
Rigg confirmed Saturday hours have been suspended after the community population fell below the Department of Libraries' threshold; the library previously opened Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon but had averaged about 16 checkouts on Saturdays before the change. She said staff adjusted program schedules to offer sessions later in the day so working parents could attend.
The board did not take further action; Rigg and staff will continue program outreach and scheduling. The library presentation was part of the consented reports for the evening.
