The Alameda County Board of Supervisors on March 17 took a series of procedural votes and one personnel-contract action.
Minutes and consent calendar
The board unanimously approved the minutes of its March 3 regular meeting. The consent calendar (items 50'57) passed on a roll-call vote with all five supervisors voting aye.
Labor and ordinance votes
Item 31A: The board adopted a side letter agreement between the county and ACMEA (the county's represented employees). Supervisor Tam moved the measure and Supervisor Miley seconded; the roll-call vote was unanimous (5-0). The board also waived the full first reading and introduced a salary-ordinance amendment (Item 31B) as described in the agenda.
Item 46: The board waived full first reading and introduced an ordinance amending Chapter 1 of the Alameda County Public Works traffic code to update vehicle and traffic rules in the unincorporated area. Supervisor Tam moved and Supervisor Miley seconded; the measure passed unanimously (5-0).
Agenda management
President Halbert announced he would continue Item 37 for two meetings (until April 7) under his continuance authority; Supervisor Miley had earlier sought a one-week continuance. Item 45 was pulled by the requesting agency, Public Works, and will be returned to the calendar later.
Votes and tallies (selected)
- Approval of minutes (March 3): aye 5, no 0 - Consent calendar (items 50'57): aye 5, no 0 - Adopt side letter (Item 31A) and introduce salary ordinance (Item 31B): aye 5, no 0 - Introduce traffic ordinance and waive first reading (Item 46): aye 5, no 0
What the votes mean
The side letter adoption advances negotiated terms with represented employees and the salary-ordinance introduction begins the formal amendment process; the traffic-code ordinance was introduced for future consideration. Item 37's continuance delays board action until April 7 and requires the board or sponsoring supervisor to bring it back on that date.
