Summary
At its April 21 meeting the Marshall County Fiscal Court approved multiple routine actions — including a $10,000 raise for the coroner effective with the next term — heard a first reading of a budget amendment and approved transfers and hires, all by voice votes.
The Marshall County Fiscal Court on April 21 approved a $10,000 increase to the coroner’s salary, authorized several fund transfers and hires, and advanced Ordinance 2026-03 (a budget amendment) to a first reading.
Commissioner Barrett moved the coroner pay increase, which a second carried by voice vote after brief discussion of surrounding counties’ rates and the fact the office had not had an increase in more than 20 years. Court members said the change would take effect at the start of the next term (January 1, 2027). The treasurer clarified the coroner’s current salary as $24,585.86; the motion adds $10,000 to that amount, producing a new salary of $34,585.86 effective with the next term.
The court also took routine administrative votes by voice: it approved the April 7 minutes; tabled consideration of the Happy Hollow Federal Lands Access Program grant; accepted the annual hazardous communications plan and a separate bloodborne pathogen plan; and approved renewal of CFSB banking services. The court approved a previously circulated Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) contract and moved to surplus a storage shed at Aurora Park for temporary sanitation use.
On personnel matters the court approved three hires in department motions: Ronnie Ahart as a seasonal road worker at $15 per hour, Griffin Cavett as full-time parks maintenance at $18 per hour and Braden Nolan as part-time parks maintenance at $18 per hour, with effective dates recorded in the meeting.
Finance votes included approval of appropriation transfers to cover park overtime, departmental adjustments, training and to reimburse the general fund for finished ARPA projects; bank transfers that included six ARPA-to-general-fund reimbursements and a transfer from the Alcohol Beverage Control Fund to the Sheriff’s Fund; and a motion to pay county bills. The treasurer said ARPA projects are complete and interest will be moved out of the ARPA account as reimbursements are processed.
Ordinance 2026-03 — presented for first reading — would add $145,286 to the county’s fiscal year 2025–26 revenue and expenditure accounts, including $87,000 of transient-tax revenue allocated to the visitors bureau and salary/benefit increases for the county attorney assistant. The presiding member said the amendment reflects an auditor recommendation and revised transient tax receipts; the ordinance was presented but not adopted at this meeting.
Finally, the court set its May meeting for 9 a.m. on May 7, scheduled a public hearing on Holmes Lane for May 7 at 9:30 a.m., and appointed two additional road reviewers (Andy Leposto and Andy Pagel) in addition to Roy Watkins. The meeting closed with a voice vote to adjourn.
