Bonds Jr. (Res. 35‑2009), a tribute to Interim County Administrator/Controller Don Gilmer (Res. 36‑2009), and a tribute to Duane Triemstra for interim service as Corporation Counsel/FOIA Coordinator (Res. 37‑2009). The Board also proclaimed Feb. 24, 2009 as “Battle Creek Sesquicentennial Day” (Res. 38‑2009).
The Board approved (Res. 41‑2009) renewal of a professional services agreement with Joe Noto to provide emergency planning and liaison services to the Office of Emergency Management and the Local Emergency Planning Committee for March 1–July 1, 2009, at a cost not to exceed $3,250; the motion passed on roll call (Yes - 6; Excused - 1).
On a separate resolution (Res. 42‑2009), the Board urged Governor Granholm to call a special election to fill the vacant 19th District State Senate seat (vacant since State Senator Mark Schauer was sworn into the U.S. Congress in January). Commissioners debated the scope of the governor’s authority but approved the resolution 6‑0 (Commissioner Rae excused).
The Board adopted Res. 43‑2009 to rotate the form of invocation alphabetically among Commissioners beginning March 5, 2009; the motion carried with a voice/roll call result recorded as Yes - 5, Opposed - 1 (Comr. Rocho).
Finally, the Board approved payment of claims against the county totaling $1,592,175.95 for the two weeks ending Feb. 11, 2009 (Res. 44‑2009). That motion passed on roll call vote with six yes votes and one excused.
Interim County Administrator Don Gilmer commented at the meeting that his interim service had been “fun” and praised staff for their support; the meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
