Locust Valley students win dozens of regional and state art and film honors

Summary
The Locust Valley Central School District recognized students who advanced in PTA Reflections, NYSATA and other regional and state art competitions and honored film festival winners from the district-hosted twentieth annual film festival.
The board recognized student accomplishments in visual art, photography, writing and film during the meeting. Anne Marie Bonaspin, coordinator of instructional technology in the fine and applied arts, and PTA representatives presented student finalists and winners from multiple exhibitions and competitions.
Staff reported that the district received a 2025 New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) community-of-excellence distinction (one of 26 districts statewide this year) and that several students advanced to state-level judging in the PTA Reflections program. The board named numerous students who were selected for juried shows and special exhibitions — locally, at the county level, and at statewide shows — and singled out winners for scholarship and leadership awards.
The meeting also celebrated achievements from the district-hosted twentieth annual film festival: roughly 300 students from nine schools attended and Locust Valley students won 15 of 41 festival awards, including recognition in categories for directing, editing, cinematography and sound design. A highlight reel was shown for attendees.
Teachers and administrators were thanked for mentorship and the board announced plans to partner with the Locust Valley Chamber of Commerce to relaunch an Art Walk in storefronts, timed to the U.S. 250th anniversary next year.
