On second reading Oct. 7 the Fort Pierce City Commission adopted two ordinances to extend the city’s territorial limits and set zoning and land‑use designations for the annexed parcels.
Ordinance 24‑037 will add two parcels at or near the intersection of South U.S. Highway 1 and Dixon Drive (approximate parcel near 310 Dixon Drive) to the city as of Jan. 1, 2025; it establishes a high‑density residential land use and zoning classification R‑5 and directs the St. Lucie County property appraiser and tax collector to place the properties on the city tax rolls for 2025. No public speakers came forward for the item; Commissioner C. Johnson moved approval and the ordinance passed by a unanimous roll‑call vote.
Ordinance 24‑038 annexes two parcels near 1835–1839 Sandridge Road, designates general commercial land use and C‑3/GC zoning, and directs required filings with the clerk of court and state agencies; the commission carried the ordinance unanimously on second reading.
Both ordinances instruct staff to file required revisions to the city charter boundary with the Department of State and to submit materials to the Office of Economic and Demographic Research. The clerk confirmed that advertising and notice requirements had been met for each item before the second readings.
What’s next: Staff will file the ordinances with the clerk, notify county tax authorities as directed in the ordinances and complete any required state filings to formalize the charter boundary revisions.
