City manager outlines storm debris cleanup, facility impacts and volunteer events

Cox said extra crews continue to run debris pickup on Wednesdays and Saturdays and urged residents to separate vegetation from construction debris because mixed loads are not eligible for the vegetation stream. "It is critical right now that you have your vegetation debris separated from like your construction debris, because we can't pick it when it's all mixed together," Cox said.
Cox also reported that one floating boat ramp at JC Park sustained damage; staff reached out to the contractor and expect the ramp to be salvaged and reinstalled after manufacturer repairs. The city logged limited major damage at five inspected residential properties and an air-conditioning malfunction at City Hall caused interior damage to some offices.
On regional matters, Cox said staff are monitoring BrightLine developments in Martin County and will coordinate with the economic development council if the company reengages with Fort Pierce. Cox also promoted upcoming volunteer activities tied to city-government week, including a volunteer packing event supported by Treasure Coast Food Bank.
Commissioners urged robust resident communications and asked public-works staff to provide a clear plan for clearing remaining debris and for executing the cleanup timeline. One commissioner noted ongoing coordination with county and utility partners where properties sit outside city jurisdiction.
Cox said staff will continue operations, coordinate with county and federal partners where appropriate, and return with additional status updates as the cleanup continues.
