Lindenhurst says Lake Shore Drive project stalled; staff sought contractor removal and pressed IDOT

Village Administrator Clay Johnson updated the Lindenhurst Village Board on the status of the Lake Shore Drive Project, saying May 12 that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is the lead agency and that village staff have repeatedly tried to press for progress.
Johnson said staff attempted to contact the contractor multiple times in February and March and, because of a lack of communication, moved to have the contractor removed from the project. The village has posted updates on its website, submitted questions to IDOT, worked with engineering consultants, engaged the village attorney and coordinated with its insurance carrier in an effort to move the project forward.
Johnson told the board that while village staff have increased pressure on the parties involved, they cannot move equipment or materials because the village does not own them. He said he has heard the process is moving but only slowly; at the time of the meeting the village could not answer who would take over remaining work or when the project would resume.
The update included no schedule for completion or contractor replacement; staff indicated they will continue to press IDOT and other parties for information and resolution.
