Lindenhurst authorizes right-of-way agreement with i3 Broadband to extend fiber to homes

The Lindenhurst Village Board voted May 12 to authorize the Village Administrator to execute a right-of-way permitting agreement with i3 Broadband, through its iTV-3 affiliate, to extend fiber-optic broadband into the village using municipal right-of-way.
Trustee Dawn Suchy made the motion and Trustee Patty Chybowski seconded; the motion passed by a 6–0 roll-call vote. Village staff told the board that, as a "competitive local exchange carrier," state law allows i3 to use the village right-of-way for its equipment. The company’s proposal envisions a phased installation over multiple years with construction anticipated to begin in fall 2025.
Village Administrator Clay Johnson said staff will coordinate permitting and contractor schedules and noted the permit package was submitted with sufficient lead time to allow staff review. A member of the public asked about the pathway for i3 equipment during the public comment portion of the meeting; the board did not resolve routing specifics at the meeting, and staff will coordinate details with the company and contractors.
The board’s authorization allows the administrator to sign the permitting agreement; it does not approve specific construction contracts or final engineering plans, which will require subsequent coordination and permits.
