Lindenhurst board adopts Grand Avenue streetscape and design guidelines

The Lindenhurst Village Board voted May 12 to adopt the Grand Avenue Corridor Streetscape and Design Guidelines, a planning document prepared by Teska Associates that lays out recommended redevelopment scenarios, conceptual renderings and a detailed cost estimate for design and construction.

Trustee Ron Grace moved to adopt the plan and Trustee Dawn Suchy seconded; the board approved the measure by a 6–0 roll-call vote. The guidelines reflect input from a stakeholder steering committee and public open houses held Jan. 27 and Feb. 24, 2025, and include illustrative renderings intended to show how redevelopment might look under different scenarios.

Mayor Dominic Marturano and staff said the document is intended as a design framework; specific design and implementation proposals will be brought to the board for consideration after additional engineering and funding work. The guidelines include estimated costs for recommended improvements, but no construction contracts were approved at the meeting.

The adoption positions the village to pursue future streetscape projects and to provide a consistent set of recommendations for developers and stakeholders. Trustees who supported the measure emphasized the public engagement that informed the plan. The board did not vote on funding or construction timelines at the meeting; those items will require separate approvals.
