The Alameda County Board of Supervisors used part of its March 24 meeting for ceremonial recognitions, proclaiming March as Women’s History Month and honoring several community leaders and retirees.
Supervisors read a countywide Women’s History Month proclamation and recognized honorees from each supervisorial district. Dr. Rose (honored for engineering and workforce development), Jennifer Hawkins (Union City Family Center), Jane Garcia (La Clinica del la Raza), Teresita De Jesus (community volunteer leader), and Dr. Ayesha Mays (Dream Youth Clinic) each received commendations and spoke briefly about community service and expanding access to education and health care.
The board also held an extended recognition for Donna Raylene Ziegler, county counsel for 14½ years and a 26‑year county attorney, highlighting her role advising departments and expanding legal staff diversity. Ziegler thanked mentors and staff and pledged to rest after a long tenure.
Tim Dupuy, retiring chief technology officer and registrar of voters after 26 years, was applauded for modernizing county IT, overseeing elections, and leading national recognition for Alameda County’s digital programs. Dupuy thanked his teams and noted the work will continue.
Other proclamations included Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and Senior Nutrition Month, with remarks from nonprofit leaders and the county’s area agency on aging about meal volumes and upcoming hearings on the area plan update.
