Renton proclaims Arbor Day and Court Personnel Appreciation Week; tree planting and court staff honored

Mayor Armando Pavoni read two proclamations Tuesday recognizing Earth Day/Arbor Day and Court Personnel Appreciation Week in the City of Renton.
For Arbor Day/Earth Day, the mayor noted Renton’s designation as a Tree City USA since 2008 and encouraged residents to participate in a city-sponsored tree-planting event. Acting urban forester Gabriela Golzarian told the council, “This year, we’ll be planting 19 native western red cedars at Thomas Tisdale Park on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. These trees will help absorb excess water in the park and provide shade for park goers.” She invited volunteers from neighborhood schools, businesses and service clubs to join staff in planting and restoration.
The council accepted the proclamation by voice vote.
On the court proclamation, the mayor proclaimed April 20–24, 2026, as Court Personnel Appreciation Week in Renton. Presiding Judge Jessica Genier thanked the council and praised court staff for their work providing access to justice and customer service. Yana Filipides, judicial administrative officer, described day-to-day duties including case management, customer service and coordination with judges and partners. During audience comment, Ronald Binsley spoke in support of the proclamation and described his experience working in judicial administration and the career opportunities municipal courts provide.
Both proclamations were adopted by the council and recipients joined council members for photographs after the presentations.
