For 326 South Eagleson, staff concluded the house retains integrity but lacks a high threshold of architectural distinctiveness for individual local designation; the commission directed additional research into the house’s architectural context and the possibility of grouping nearby houses into a small district. Public commenters including local preservation advocates urged the commission to consider broader context and to investigate named local builders and connections to other nearby houses.
Commissioners cited the 90‑day demolition delay clock, the option for a 30‑day extension by the director, and the need to determine whether either property could be aggregated into a larger designation. The commission moved to continue both items to gather more information and explore procedural options for paired or clustered consideration; the motion passed unanimously.
Staff will return with additional documentary research and recommendations on whether to pursue continuances, extensions, or nominations to the common council.
