Commission approves five-year lease with Northeast State Community College for Workforce Development site

The Carter County Board of Commissioners approved an amended five-year lease with the Tennessee Board of Regents on behalf of Northeast State Community College for the county’s Workforce Development Complex.
Attorney Hardin reported the existing lease expires June 30, 2021. Northeast State agreed to a five-year term at an annual rent of $138,790, reduced from the prior $177,066 per year. The college provided a letter addressing maintenance needs and long-term plans for the site.
On motion by Randall Jenkins, seconded by Gary Bailey, the Board approved the lease: 21 yes, 1 no (Charles VonCannon). Commissioners also agreed to partner with Northeast State on requested improvements as funding becomes available and scheduled a coordination meeting with college and local education partners to discuss space needs.
The approved lease reduces the county’s annual rent receipts compared with the prior agreement but secures a five-year tenancy for the Workforce Development site while the parties coordinate upgrades and space planning.
