PAC appoints two members to FY27 UPWP Committee and outlines three regional projects

At the Nov. 12 meeting the Planning Advisory Committee appointed Chris Shaheen and Melinda Scott to serve as the PAC’s two representatives on the FY27 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) Committee. Aaron DeNamur made the motion and Cymone Bedford seconded; the motion passed as recorded.
Taylor Newton told the PAC the UPWP Committee reviews applications for regional planning projects and meets several times over a few months to vote on a slate of projects rather than individual projects. Newton said three key regional initiatives are tentatively planned for the next fiscal year: a regional plan update (including a Metropolitan Transportation Plan update and a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy update), an All-Hazards Mitigation Plan and accompanying municipal appendices, and a Regional Wastewater Study to better understand system capacity and bottlenecks needed to meet regional housing targets.
Staff said the scope of the wastewater study is still being defined and may include a steering committee. PAC members suggested potential involvement including keeping PAC informed on the regional plan process and collaborating on municipal hazard appendices. Members also raised the possibility of studying water service in areas with septic/well overlap. Newton said staff will solicit additional feedback and return to the PAC at the December meeting.
