Taylor Newton, CCRPC Planning Program Director, presented an Act 181 update on June 4 that included a draft regional future land-use map and findings from public feedback on housing targets.
Newton explained that planners consolidated multiple rural designations into a single "rural" category to simplify the regional map and align with Act 181 requirements. "When combined, the rural areas make up over 80% of the region," Newton told the committee. He also reviewed lessons learned from outreach, including balancing priorities across municipalities and using planning as a conversation starter.
The presentation emphasized collaborative re-creation of a regional future land-use map that reflects the needs of all 19 Chittenden County municipalities and aligns the ECOS plan schedule with Act 181 deliverables. Committee members discussed how to incorporate input and the schedule for public review.
The committee did not take formal action on the draft map at this meeting; staff will continue outreach and bring revised materials back to the committee as the process advances.
