Clinton council approves consent agenda, OKs police vehicle replacement and county road grants

The Clinton City Council voted to approve its consent agenda on Oct. 28, clearing four items including approval of minutes, accounts payable, acceptance/resigning of Davis County road funding and the purchase of a replacement police vehicle after a crash.
Police Chief Stoker told the council the vehicle involved in the accident was totaled and the replacement will draw on the city's approved motor pool budget and insurance proceeds. “The vehicle that was involved in the accident is totaled. And so this new vehicle will just be replacing that vehicle in service,” the chief said. He added that insurance payments do not credit equipment values and that outfitting a patrol vehicle with equipment now runs about $38,000–$40,000.
The chief said staff would transfer usable equipment from the totaled unit and use state equipment grants obtained last year for cameras where possible. He said the city had not yet spent the motor pool funds set aside and would use those budgeted resources for the replacement.
On county funding, staff member Dave outlined two separate grants from Davis County: a roughly $2,600,000 award intended for a roundabout project on 1315 Hundred (1300 North/1500 West) and a newly announced $1,600,000 third-quarter sales-tax grant for work on 2300 North in the Crane Field area. Dave said environmental review, property acquisition and design are still underway and that the exact construction dates are not yet set.
Council Member Greg Tyler moved to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. No council member recorded a formal roll-call dissent in the meeting transcript.
What’s next: staff will proceed with the procurement and scheduling steps for the vehicle and will continue coordination with Davis County and developers (Ivory Homes) on the roundabout and 2300 North work.
