Lawrence City approves EPIC as employee benefits broker

The Lawrence City council voted to approve a professional services agreement with EPIC to serve as the city’s benefits broker and benefits administrator.
Jeanette Jackson, who identified herself as the city’s human resources director, presented the agreement and introduced an EPIC representative. "EPIC will now be servicing and be our broker for our benefit side as the benefit administrator to assist with all of who we have all of our vendors," Jackson said. The board asked no substantive questions and approved the contract by voice vote.
An EPIC representative who introduced herself as Haley described the firm’s work negotiating benefits and supporting HR staff, saying the company seeks to "protect the balance sheet of the city" by finding value and technology options the city does not currently have. "We do everything from negotiating the bid to making sure that we get the best value at the lowest price," she said.
The contract was moved, seconded and carried with unanimous voice approval. The agreement will make EPIC the city’s broker and administrator for employee benefit programs; the contract text and implementation timeline were not read into the record during the meeting.
The council did not record an individual roll-call tally for the motion; the chair declared the motion carried and moved to the next agenda item.
