Commission on Aging seeks $180,000 forward funding and $20,000 for Meals on Wheels to eliminate waiting list

The executive director of the Worcester County Commission on Aging asked commissioners to include forward funding in the FY27 budget to prevent service interruptions for seniors while federal grants are processed.
“...the bulk of our increase of expenses is due due to the forward funding for the title 3 c meals program because of reductions in state and federal funding as well as the turnaround time in receiving the grant funds,” the executive director said, requesting $180,000 in forward funding and a $20,000 increase for Meals on Wheels to eliminate the program’s waiting list.
The director told commissioners the agency manages nearly 20 different funding sources and relies on timely reimbursements to maintain services; the FY27 county funding increase requested for the Commission on Aging is $40,592 (about a 2.1% increase over FY26 requested county funding). She described Meals on Wheels as providing health and welfare checks as well as nutrition and cited instances where staff interventions aided seniors in medical emergencies.
Next steps: the Commission on Aging will appear in the May budget work sessions; commissioners asked no substantive questions during the presentation.
