“We have been notified that we are receiving a reduction in funding that supports our core services in the health department,” the Health Department representative said, adding that the change reduces the required match and that a memo detailing the reduction will appear in the May 12 budget work session packet.
Staff projected an overall 6% revenue increase from FY26 adopted levels and said the FY27 requested expenditures are 14% lower than last year’s adopted budget. The department plans one new environmental health FTE (salary and benefits all‑in about $89,419) and listed a $26,000 decrease for new vehicles and an $8,000 increase for Snow Hill building maintenance tied to FY25 actual costs.
Commissioners were told the department had previously sought waivers for increased match in two prior cycles; this is the first cycle in three years the department does not expect to request a waiver. The department described the match reduction and line‑item changes as the primary drivers of the FY27 variance profile.
Next steps: the memo with detailed calculations will be presented in the May 12 budget work session for commissioner review.
