Clerk’s office staffing overlap moved to April; early voting agreement approved

The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners on March 19 moved a Clerk’s Office staffing-overlap proposal to the April Executive Committee meeting after questions about whether a proposed 32-hour position should be converted to a full-time (40-hour) role with benefits. The motion to postpone carried 6–1 (Commissioner Bunek opposed).
Clerk Michelle L. Crocker told the board the 32-hour position is budgeted in the election budget and that her request would make the position a five-day job intended to provide continuity during a planned FMLA absence and an upcoming vacancy; she said the change was intended to be budget-neutral by using vacancy and election funds already appropriated. Commissioners asked for additional documentation; Crocker said she had previously provided details.
Separately the board unanimously voted to waive and release an attorney-client privilege letter requested by the Clerk’s Office and also unanimously approved an early voting agreement among Leelanau County and multiple townships (Bingham, Centerville, Cleveland, Elmwood Charter Township, Empire, Glen Arbor, Kasson, Leelanau, Leland, Solon and Suttons Bay), authorizing the County Clerk to sign the agreement. Crocker provided summary answers on costs and reimbursement for early voting during the meeting.
