Leelanau County board backs placing roads and highways millage renewal on August ballot

The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners on April 14 recommended that the county place a renewal of the County Roads and Highways Maintenance and Repair millage on the Aug. 4, 2026 ballot.
Brendan Mullane, manager of the Leelanau County Road Commission, presented the millage renewal proposal with supporting materials and a PowerPoint. Commissioner William Bunek moved to recommend the proposal for placement on the ballot; the motion, seconded by Commissioners Mark Walter and Rick Robbins, passed by voice and recorded as a unanimous recommendation (7-0).
The Board’s recommendation advances the proposal to the regular session for placement on the August election ballot; campaign timing, ballot language and rate will follow the Road Commission’s and county clerk’s statutory steps leading up to the August 4 election.
Next steps: the millage renewal will appear on the August 4, 2026 ballot per the board’s recommendation and standard election scheduling procedures.
