The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners approved Resolution No. 2026-003 on March 19 to place a Senior Citizens Services millage renewal and restoration on the August 4, 2026 primary ballot.
Under the resolution the board asks voters to renew the county’s senior services millage at an effective rate of 0.3200 mills (restoring the previously authorized 0.0055 mill and returning to the previously voted 0.3200 level). The resolution cites Act 39 of the Public Acts of 1976 as the county’s authority to appropriate funds to organizations providing services for residents age 60 and older, and notes that the 2024 approval rolled down to 0.3145 mills under the Headlee Amendment. The first-year revenue if levied in full is estimated at $1,346,672; the resolution notes that a portion of the millage may be captured by the Leelanau County Brownfield Authority as required by state law.
The board held a public hearing on March 19 as part of the meeting and directed the county clerk to certify the ballot language. Commissioners approved the ballot language and the submission to the clerk for certification.
