Lindenhurst adopts updated building and construction codes to meet state law

The ordinance adopts the 2018 editions of the major model codes (with some administrative amendments) as the village’s foundational standard, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
The meeting record states that the State of Illinois codified Public Act 103-0510, which requires communities to adopt or follow minimum construction standards effective Jan. 1, 2025. Lindenhurst previously followed the 2012 editions of the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and related model codes since 2017; the ordinance moves the village to codes published within the prior nine years (2018 editions) to improve consistency with overlapping jurisdictions and simplify permitting.
The board noted that permits issued before Jan. 1, 2025, will be reviewed and inspected based on the 2012 codes. No member proposed amendments to the ordinance during the meeting. A public commenter, Dave Mohry, later thanked the board for adopting the updated codes.
Implementation steps, including publication of administrative amendments and permit-processing changes, were not detailed in the minutes and will be handled by staff.
