Residents raise trash and vacant-lot complaints; finance director reports higher revenues and expenditures

During the public-comment portion of the Dec. 10 meeting, two residents asked the council to address local service problems: Annette Bridges said trash service on Burnt Factory Road had not been picked up, and Debra Lloyd asked that a vacant lot on Collins Lane be cleaned up.
In the finance report, Finance Director Wes Park said general fund revenue for the five months ending Nov. 30, 2024 totaled $3,777,522 compared with $3,270,798 a year earlier. He reported general fund expenditures of $6,715,481 through Nov. 30, 2024 (45.53% of a $14,748,543 budget). Park said revenues are $506,724 higher than the prior year but expenditures are higher by $810,062.
Administrative Services Director Doris Sumpter delivered the administrative report while the county administrator was absent, reported that the AESC job fair attracted 130 applicants and said another event is planned for spring. Sumpter extended condolences to the family and town of Mayor George Gamer; several council members also offered condolences and seasonal greetings. Sheriff Charles Lemon told the council deputies had made two arrests and had identified two additional suspects still at large, saying they "knew who everyone was" in that matter.
Council took no vote on the public-comment items during this meeting; the minutes record resident concerns for county follow-up.
