Marlboro County Council approves regional WIOA workforce plans

Marlboro County Council voted unanimously Dec. 10 to approve the Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments plans for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
Bridgette Coates of Pee Dee Workforce Development asked Council to approve the county’s participation in the regional four-year plans, noting Marlboro County is represented by Rena McLain and Chesterfield County by Sam Bass. Coates described services the program provides, including resume help and job fairs, and said the organization is working with the county’s economic development director to support recruitment for an AESC Battery project in Bennettsville.
On a motion by Dr. Damien Johnson and second by Mr. Steve Blackman, Council approved the resolution supporting the WIOA plans; the minutes record the vote as unanimous. The minutes do not attach the full WIOA plan or list program budgets, but record that the required plan documents were presented to Council as required by the regional council.
