Westonka board hears construction progress; multi-use field eyed for September, stadium for November

The Westonka Public School District School Board received a construction update on site and building progress Tuesday, including timelines for athletic facilities and phased openings of new spaces.

Board members heard that the district expects the north entrance to open in May and that crews will create a temporary asphalt entrance while the courtyard is reworked. “We’re hoping that the multi use field can be in September, pending weather, and then we think the stadium will be November,” a committee member said during the report. Contractors who built the tennis courts are overseeing the field work, and officials said weather and soil conditions will continue to affect scheduling.

Inside the building, staff described near-term finishing work in the administrative area — casework, ceiling grids, tile and flooring — and ongoing abatement and final finishes in the gym. District staff said the second‑level counseling area and the north entrance will open together; photos of the demolished tennis court and active track work were shown to the board.

Officials said the district will stage access changes for drivers and pedestrians while courtyard construction is underway and will provide communications to families about temporary traffic patterns and parking adjustments.

The board did not take formal action on construction items at the meeting; the update was presented as information and the next construction status report is expected at a future meeting.
